 WABA GLOBAL FORUM 2

10. Popular Mobilisation

Best practices in community mobilising initiatives to support breastfeeding-related goals will be presented. Participants will learn and share various popular mobilisation techniques (e.g. WBW), including how to develop a campaign, build advocacy skills, and link breastfeeding to broader global campaigns, such as UNICEF's Global Movement for Children.

I. Essentials of Popular Mobilisation - Dr. Marcos Arana, IBFAN Mexico, Facilitator

This workshop will provide participants with the essential elements for any popular mobilisation campaigns whether at community, national or international level. A range of creative popular mobilisation techniques have been used by breastfeeding advocates all around the world during World Breastfeeding Week and in other campaigns, as well as in linking breastfeeding with broader global campaigns. Examples of such best practices will be shared from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Participants are also invited to contribute.

II. Mobilising the Community for a Mother-Baby Friendly Culture - Beth Styer, LLLI/WABA, USA

How have breastfeeding advocates mobilised communities to create mother-baby friendly cultures? A mother-baby friendly community encompasses baby-friendly institutions, mother-friendly care and workplaces and positive norms and attitudes towards mothers and children. This workshop will showcase some of the success stories breastfeeding advocates have had in transforming their communities into a mother-baby friendly one. Participants are also invited to contribute.
